Casco cover concerns damage to your own vehicle. Full casco typically adds collision cover to partial casco. The choice also depends on the loss you could bear yourself and any contractual requirements.
Separate the types of vehicle protection
Check which benefits sit under liability, partial casco and collision cover in each quote. A product name is not enough. Ask how damage to your own vehicle, third-party claims and additional services are distinguished.
The age of the car is only one factor
Record the current value of your vehicle, annual use and available financial reserve. Consider how you would pay for a major repair or replacement. A rule based only on the age of the car overlooks these practical differences.
Check leasing and finance conditions
Read your leasing or finance agreement before changing cover. Ask for confirmation that the proposed policy meets its requirements. Coordinate the policy start date with the vehicle handover.
Look closely at how a claim would be handled
Compare excesses, total-loss valuation, repair-network rules and any roadside assistance you need. Check that regular drivers are correctly recorded. Quote the same circumstances each time, so that a lower premium is not simply a different level of cover.
